Lila’s Geranium birthday dress, hanging in the same old spot.
A fabric named Sprinkle seems appropriate for a birthday dress, right? I discovered it here back in December and loved how it looked on the Fairy Tale Dress (Camille always finds the best polka dots!). I bought the Geranium pattern with this fabric in mind, but was ever so gently nudged into making a practice version last month. And I could make this pattern again and again, it’s so fun and quick and simple and satisfying.
There are several options with this pattern, but I went with almost the same ones as last time – faux cap sleeves, pleats, and side seam pockets. And this time I added the notch at the neckline.
The dress is a 4T and has a nice easy fit. Very wearable.
And here it is all tangled up in another Made by Rae project from several years back – the felt heart garland, which I always have major trouble putting away after Valentine’s Day. So I don’t.
Why does four seem so old and grown up? I’m savoring these last few days of three…
That’s adorable! I think I have some similar fabric!
Beautiful! I love seeing Geraniums in so many fun fabrics – looks great with the heart garland. Don’t blame you for now wanting to put it away!
It is beautiful. My daughter turns two at the end of April. I can’t decide what to make for her birthday dress.
So cute! The material is just gorgeous! 🙂 The pattern is quite nifty as well. If I were having a girl instead of a boy I would make a bunch of those dresses. Thanks for the post!
That is a great polka dot fabric! The colors are so pretty.
Such a pretty dress…yes, indeed four does seem so grown up…that is where they start to really be little kids…and not toddlers!
Have a happy party! 🙂
It’s a perfect birthday dress! Happy Birthday, Lila.:)
As usual, your sewing is amazing Gail! Love the dress and your choice of fabric.
gorgeous dress. happy birthday sweet lila!
Gail I love the way this one turned out! I’m getting ready to make a second Geranium too. My daughter Eliza is turning four at the end of this month and I can hardly believe it! Every time I look at a new dress I’ve made her I think “Surly this is way too big!”, but it’s not… she’s really that big. Have a lovely spring weekend!
Aw look how great it looks in rainbow sprinkles!! I seriously think the Geranium was made for polka dots. So awesome. And I agree with you, 4 seems so grown up and kid-like.
a gorgeous dress! i love the sprinkles.
gail, it just gets better and better as they get older. yesterday i went to get some ribbon for a dress i made for indigo and she wanted to come along with me. we learned that mcalls patterns were 99 cents each. we probably spent 45 minutes together looking through patterns together. i came home with 11 patterns. it was so much fun! every age is just so great.
Perfecto! That fabric was made for that pattern. I could make it 100 times and love every version. Happy birthday to Lila! 4 is a great age.
Stunning! Wish my 17 year old was 4 again! Actually no I don’t! She’s still utterly gorgeous, we have a great relationship now, but savour those little days!
“Almost Four” is seeming impossibly grown up here as well and I am amazed our Lila’s are about to have their birthdays again! 4 seems very mature and very TALL here! I hope your Lila has a lovely birthday (as I’m sure she will, knowing her mother’s wonderful taste, hehe)!!
oh, it’s adorable… and your notch is top notch! well done!
That’s great fabric for the dress! It definitely suits the pattern!
Beautiful, Gail! I love the fabric and the geranium is such a great pattern. What a perfect birthday dress!
So lovely! And I love the heart garland and the book shelves! I have some spice racks from ikea that I got to use as book shelves, but haven’t figured out where to put them yet… Well, great work on the dress!
Adorable! Yeah, we just hit the 5.5 mark. How did that happen??
Really such a cute dress! And a very beautiful little girl too! Happy Birthday!!!
Such a gorgeous dress, I’d really like to try that pattern too. And four! Lila is looking so much more grown up than when I first read your blog. I hope she had a lovely birthday.
I love this! I have the pattern in my stash I think this would be perfect for my daughters 3rd birthday. Thanks for the inspiration!
I just love this combination!
You just sold me this pattern (and I was doing so great with my “mo-more-pattern-shopping-for-a-while” rule 🙂
I totally agree with you: Camille’s has a great eye for fabrics.
