I picked out a couple simple projects for this edition of Kids Clothes Week. I had a plan, I really did. But here it is, Wednesday night, and all I have to show for myself is a skirt I made last week. Seriously, I’m having the hardest time getting my act together lately.
BUT… I did manage to accidentally fit things in with the traveling theme, and I do love it when a KCW button matches my skirt. So I’m pretending all is not lost.
Anyway, this map fabric, I love it. It’s from Moda’s Passport collection, which includes maps of New York City, Paris, Tokyo, and London. Each one is beautifully detailed and comes in several colorways. This one is my favorite – perfectly muted blues and greens and grays.
I went with another Compagnie M Lotta skirt, but changed it up a little. Lila’s first Lotta ended up needing elastic for a better fit, which means the zipper doesn’t get used at all. So this time I scrapped the zipper and made it easy on/easy off with just elastic in the back. I cut the back piece on the fold and added extra length at the top so I could fold down a back waistband and thread elastic through it (if you’ve ever made the Hopscotch skirt, same idea). Unsurprisingly I made some mathematical errors that complicated the process, but all in all, it was a really simple modification. This skirt pattern is becoming one of my favorites.
In other news, there’s only one thing growing in our garden, but it’s one very delicious thing. This time of year is the best.
the skirt looks beautiful, that fabric is gorgeous and as for the raspberries…yum!
Oh those berries look perfect and a whole handful at once?! Fantastic
Love that skirt. The fabric I great and the pocket accents are just try he thing! I had the same thought with the Lotta skirt, just a tiny bit more width and the zip becomes redundant and everything is easier. Nice thought to do the waist as a fold down rather than a separate waistband. “like a hopscotch” makes perfect sense to me, being an Oliver + S devotee.
I’ve been sewing for myself this week, so you’re ahead of me on KCW points!
Such a cute Lotta skirt – love the map fabric and the muted colours! Thanks for sharing how you did the elastic modification – I’m planning to do this too. I find the zipper in the one I made to be redundant, and the buttonhole elastic causes some slightly strange bunchiness. Still, I love the pattern and hope to make another. Happy raspberry season!
I am in love with the pockets on that skirt!
What fun fabric and another great skirt. I also love accidentally matching the KCW theme! And your raspberries look great. We’re loving the backyard raspberries around here as well. They’re so easy to grow and the kids just hang out and eat them happily.
Thanks a lot for using my pattern again. Your Lotta skirt looks adorable! 🙂
Her hair has gotten so dark! When did that happen? :)!
What clever fabric and a really pretty skirt!
Oh what a cute, cute skirt! The map fabric is inspired, and that lotta pattern looks great. She’s gonna need breezy skirts for this weather man, holy cow.
Stay cool this weekend guys!!
Gail, these photos and this outfit! I love the muted colors so much! You have really sold me on this skirt. I am already so behind on all the things I want to make, I may have to save this one until fall through! It’s so awesome!
Love this! And wondering how I missed this fabric line.
Love the skirt Gail. I am wondering did you make the tee shirt as well, and if so what pattern is it?
thank you, Asmita! it’s a Gap shirt, although the sleeves remind me of the Make it Perfect Little Joey dress pattern…you could turn that one into a t-shirt pretty easily! 🙂
It took me quite some time to read your blog from this one to the first entry you posted here. I stayed up till 5am yesterday because I am simply obsessed. A few of your oliver+s dresses have been my all time Pinterest favorite but I never thought they were made by the same person. I just purchased six oliver+s patterns because you totally sold it. I have been holding off on the purchase because my girl is turning four this fall but what the heck I am buying the patterns for the small sizes. If anything I can still hug the patterns to sleep. I love love your dresses, your fabric choices, your girl and your love in the garments. You are amazing!
Thank you so much, Annie! I’m very flattered that you’d give up sleep to look through my blog archives :). And I’m so glad you took the plunge on the Oliver + S patterns – they won’t disappoint! Have fun sewing them, I hope you and your daughter love them! Happy sewing!
