Remember this Briar Rose Ice Cream blouse from a few weeks ago?
I originally labeled the fit as “not all that roomy”, but when Lila went to wear it for the first time after the photos, I realized that a more accurate description would’ve been plain old “too small”. What was I thinking, making a size 3?? It’s too bad because the crickets are one of my favorite Briar Rose prints, and I used up my whole yard, but hey, these things happens. At least it was my mistake rather than Lila’s stubbornness this time, but she isn’t gonna wear it.
So instead of letting it languish in the closet, I thought I’d try to find it a new home. Would anyone be interested in taking it off our hands? If you know a little girl who might look sweet in this top, I’d be happy to mail it off to you.
It’s a size 3 with about an inch of added length – the style is loose-fitting and pretty forgiving, so the 3 is probably just right for an average 2.5 or 3 year old, or maybe a super scrawny 4 year old. Here’s a link to the Ice Cream Dress pattern if you want to look at any of the exact measurements.
To enter the giveaway just leave a comment on this post by next Thursday, August 22nd, and I’ll choose a winner after that. And if you need a prompt for the comment, you could tell me the name the little girl who might end up wearing this top, or just tell me a name you like – I’ve always been obsessed with names and I love to hear what other people choose. Or whatever else you want to say, I’m not picky. The giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere.
Thanks for stopping by! Oh and thanks for all your kind comments about the jacket, too!
Ellie would love it! She’s 2 1/2 years old with little caramel curls!!!
Oh, cute, I think I have a little someone who could wear that… 🙂
Dylan
I would LOVE this top for my little girl! I love the fabric!
My daughter Anneke would love to have this adorable shirt, and would get some good use out of it – she will be three this fall. Thank you for thinking of a giveaway – we love handmade clothes but I am still learning to sew and every project still takes me days (if not weeks!).
Oh fun! Comments about names 🙂 I’m obsessed with names, and if I won the giveaway it would be for my daughter Era. Her name comes from the word era meaning “a period of time”, like the Mesozoic era when the dinosaurs lived, or the Victorian era. We pronounce it to rhyme with “Sarah” but in the UK people would pronounce it like “ee-rah”. She is our new era.
Love reading your blog and gleaning inspiration from it-especially the fabric you use. My little girl Zahra loves bright prints like the one you have here. Keep on creating!
I have really enjoyed seeing all the clothes you make for your daughter. After seeing your top I went and bought a yard of that print! I have a 2.5 yr old named Grace who would love that top!
I would love to give this to my adorable niece, Pippa!
Your sewing projects are awesome and I love your work! My daughter’s name is Scout. It is the perfect name for her!
I would happily give the lovely top to my granddaughter, Alayna. She loves to pick out her own clothes and is quite the girly-girl. Thanks for a chance.

I’m so sorry that it doesn’t fit Lila! It’s WAY cute! But I guess that it can be some other little girl’s gain. I know a little girl named Vivienne that I would probably give it to. It looks like her style. And who knows, maybe some day I’ll have my own little girl and Vivienne’s parents might give it back to me.
Beautiful shirt! I love the whole Briar Rose line. I know a Zoë that would love to wear that shirt!

This would be wonderful for my 2 year old (she has a big sister so even her handmade clothes are often hand-me-downs). We call her Katie or Kitty-Cat but really she is Catriona Rose – I often wonder what she will choose to be called when she is older! Thanks for the chance.
I would absolutely love this top for my little girl, Olivia. I do live in the UK but I’ve been following your blog for a couple of months as I really want to get into sewing, I discovered your blog through a post on Pinterest. I have two little girls who I would love to see in this top – a 2 year old called Eliza, and her little sister Ottilie who has some growing to do first (she’s 8 months!). They are usually the recipients of hand-me-downs from their big sister, but I have started sewing some things for them in smaller sizes as they’re less likely to reject my lovingly made creations!
I want to win just so I can look at it and admire your construction! This blog is the reason I’m learning to sew and I would love to have the shirt so I can aspire to make my own soon! And I’d probably find a kid to give it to after I’d ogled it for a while (since my kid is big 4 year old). And I’m part-time in Portland so I’d save you on shipping 😉

i cant use this top, my girls, Evan and Jill, are both too old. When i make this pattern, i always drop the armhole 3/4″. I slashed the pattern right through the yoke. Fit is more forgiving this way.
I really like Kathleen. I wanted it for my three year old’s middle name, but my husband won the coin toss. Thanks for the giveaway!

Okay, so 106 comments already? On the off chance that I am picked, this will look sweet on my almost 2 year old little girl miss Rayah Joy. We nearly named her Rayah Sunshine but thought it was maybe just a little too hippie-ish, but she certainly is a ray of joy!

What a lovely blouse!
My 4 year old is pretty petite so I hope she can fit into it. Her name is Hana, Japanese for flower…
In case it doesn’t fit Hana, it would definitely fit Dubheasa, Irish for “dark beauty”, my friend’s daughter 🙂

What a pity. I loved it when I saw it on Flickr. It would fit my Audrey very nicely (but she’s an opinionated child, so whether she’d wear it…) Anyway I’d love the chance to make one in return if we received it, as I did here: http://bartacksandsingletrack.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/kcw-round-globe-with-one-little-gift.html
Fiona will look so cute in this. I have just started sewing and have only made a few skirts and baby accessories. I haven’t braved my way into dresses or shirts. Fiona is my youngest (of 6) and it has been fun making a few things.
as my kids have exceeded this size, i would love to see my friend’s little girl, Claire, sporting this adorable print!
When I saw the original post I thought I HAVE to make one for my daughter. I haven’t yet (!) and this one is just perfect. My little girl Honor is two and a half and quite tall so the fit sounds perfect. She’s blond and blue-eyed and the colours would look gorgeous on her.

I found your blog awhile ago when someone pinned the original ice cream dress you made, the one with the pieced pockets. I loved it so much, I finally bought the pattern and made my first successful garment from a pattern. (I’m officially in love with Oliver + S!) I made the 2 for my little girl in solids. I’m so intimidated by prints! I love what everyone else chooses to sew with, but second guess myself at the fabric store and end up with solids…
Anyway, my daughter’s name is Rachel Aileen and she turns three this month. Thanks for the giveaway and thanks for the inspiration!
My little gal is two and she would love this top! Her name is…wait for it…Charlotte Evelyne Catherine Amy Mandy Marisa Ruchi. It is a tradition in my family to use all the names of loved ones as middle names. My son and I each have six names but Charlotte ended up with seven. Some of my girlfriends really liked the idea so now a bunch of them have children with buckets of names too! We think it’s kind of a fun way to carry all your family along with you. 🙂

It would get passed down to her 10 month old sister, Riley Jane. Just for kicks, I wanted to name them Lilith Amaya, Anabel Lee, Analeis, or Lenea (Luh-nay-uh, after my hubby’s great grandmother from Sweden). Riley was almost Lenea. Usually spelled Linnea. I’m a beginner seamstress and I’m excited to learn some things from your site!
