Have you been following along with the Vintage May series hosted by Skirt as Top and Craftiness is Not Optional?
Week two is now underway, and my post is up today! I combined two Oliver + S patterns to make a vintage-inspired Playdate-Puppet Show hybrid dress – I hope you’ll pop over to Skirt as Top and check out the details!
You did a fabulous job with this dress! I will definitely be trying my hand at making one.:)
thanks, cindy! π
Wow – this is perfect in every way. Love the pom-pom trim. You have a such a gift in terms of details and colour – you make it look effortless. I’ve been sewing for many years and you always share something that gives me an idea…something so obvious and clever that I just have to use it! Your creations are stunning. Thanks so much for sharing on your blog. I’m super happy (and jealous) you’ve met a fellow sewer (your age/stage of life) in your area. I’m optimistic it will happen for me too!
thank you so, so much! it really is fun to have a local sewing friend, i would wish it for everyone!
Ditto. Ditto. Question – are all the o + s sleeves interchangeable? I have never thought to try this, but I love the combination of the 2 patterns!
Thanks! π I had never tried to interchange before, but it was surprisingly easy to sub in these particular sleeves. The two sleeve patterns were very similar in shape – I laid the Puppet Show sleeve on top of the Playdate one, then made a new pattern that kept the armhole shape of the Playdate sleeve and used the width and length of the Puppet Show sleeve (width was important because of the cuff). Both sleeves have gathering at the top, which made them forgiving to work with.
You made the sleeve “flip-flop” sound so simple :). . .maybe one day I’ll get brave enough to try it, ’cause I sure love your results!
What a delightful surprise to head to Skirt As Top this morning and see a guest post from you! After your frequent KCWC posting, I was going through some “Probably Actually” withdrawal:) Another beautiful dress . . . I love the way you take O & S patterns and put a spin on them to make them your own. You have such an amazing style and Lila must be the best-dressed girl in the neighborhood!
thank you! let’s just say that if Lila ever actually wore the things i made her, she’d be a lot better dressed than she usually is! she has her own style ideas, that’s for sure π
This is gorgeous – love the sleeves on here. Once again, you’ve made me change my mind (I publicly admitted a few days ago that this pattern is not one of my favourites – ha!)
thanks, justine! i was the same way with this pattern, it didn’t appeal to me at first and then i saw somebody’s version in the flickr pool and i was converted! π
I simply cannot put into words how perfectly wonderful this dress is. I am truly in awe!
thank you so much, erin! honestly, instead of making this dress i almost copied your vintage may pjs, i loved them so much π
Thanks for your wonderful post, buddy! It’s so beautiful! Maybe we can arrange a purple polka dot pants for playdate-puppet show dress trade…I’m sure Em would get plenty of wear out of this one and Lila would wear those constantly! Hehe.
(most lopsided trade ever)
Hug!
thank YOU! i originally had a line in my post about how lila was never, ever going to wear this dress, but i took it out at the last minute. you know, feeling all hopeful. ha, i know she’d pick the purple polka dots any day of the week π
