KCWC has begun!
I decided to kick things off with something simple and practical – a pair of spring pants to match everything. This is my third time making the Oliver + S Sailboat pants, and it’s one of my favorite patterns – Lila lived in her Sailboats last spring and summer. And since she actually wore them (it’s getting rare around here nowadays, her wearing something I make), I didn’t deviate much from the pair I made last April, just sized them up.
Last year’s were definitely starting to show their wear. A little snug around the middle, too.
There, that’s better:
This time I hid some spots and butterflies inside and used square buttons, just to spice things up a little bit.
She says she likes them, so I’m calling Day #1 a success!
Pattern:ย Oliver + S Sailboat pants, size 3T
Fabric:ย Robert Kaufman Carolina Chambray in Light Indigo Washed (very soft and lightweight – my much overused favorite!) with Lizzy House’s Hello Pilgrim Butterfly facings
Okay, on to the next project!
These are great, I love them in chambray!
so cute!!! love that smile ๐
I was reading your blog with my daughter on my lap when she called out, “Hey – I have that same shirt!” (which she does – love it!). Then I told her that your Lila also has the same name as her, which she thought was pretty cool. When we got to the last picture, her final comment was, “But she has a better smile than me!” (my Lilah tends to grimace when being photographed and clearly I’ve made my frustrations clear – gulp!). Love that last photo – and of course the pants. Chambray . . .O&S . . .blue . . . all good things!!
Aw, what awesome photos of Lila! That chin in the one up above is cracking me up. These look perfect for her long distance sandbox leaping! ๐
Super cute pants and the cutest belly button too! I love it. My next Oliver + S pattern?
Very cute!
those are great pics of l. love that pattern but can’t get s to wear the ones i made for her. maybe i’ll just have to sew some up for b instead.
Looking super good! I just might have to get that pattern. ๐ You’re making me into Oliver + S fan!!!!
Suoer cute!
These look great! I’ve made quite a few pairs of these now, they are just so frickin’ cute and summery for boys or girls!
(I agree, your little girl has the cutest belly button – and chin!)
Nothing beats these pants. They’re so perfectly unisex. So cute on your little girl!
Love them just got this pattern and I cant wait. Is this chambray thicker than standard quilting cotton?
oh you’ll love this pattern! i’d say the chambray is maybe a little lighter weight than quilting cotton, but similar.
They look great. I love the chambray. I have those on my kcwc list too.
gorgeous (so is the tummy sticking out over the top) and particularly cute!! My little niece may just be getting a treat soon as they are inspiring me to go back to dressmaking as well as crafting
Darling outfit all around. And darling girl. Just found your blog through KCWC. It’s lovely.
darling! The little pops of fun on the inside make them look like something from a chic children’s boutique. My kcwc has been off to a very slow start due to things entirely outside of sewing, but this is inspiring.
Very cute! Which color of the chambray did you use? I have the royal and it is pretty but not as neutral as yours.
What color chambray are you using from that line? Light blue or royal?
I’m pretty sure it’s the Light Indigo Washed. Here’s a link: http://www.robertkaufman.com/fabrics/indigo_chambray_45/I011-1634/
Dear Gail,
First of all – i adore yor blog!! so lovely!!!
secondly – i wanted to ask you if you used the butterfly fabric instead of the interfacing or did you used them both?!
thank you! and good question – i still used interfacing, the pattern calls for interfacing the facing fabric ๐
