While getting her babies dressed the other morning, Lila asked me why Baby Girl doesn’t have any pants. I was stumped. We pawed through the doll clothes and it was true – nary a pair. I told her I’d take care of the problem by the end of the business day.
As it turns out, a pair of doll pants take about 15 minutes from start to finish, so I easily made good on my promise. I used the pattern that has furnished Baby Girl with much of her wardrobe – McCall’s 4338.
After that first pair I made some tiny cords with a miniature back pocket. And no wardrobe is complete without denim, so the jeans came next, dressed up with some scalloped top stitching.
Lila suggested adding the back tags – a girl after my own heart. I ended up swapping out “baby girl” for “tiny pants” to complete the trifecta.
Since I had the doll clothes patterns out I made another little pinafore dress (McCalls 5347) in a print I ordered from Hobby Lobby awhile back.
And transferred the “baby girl” tag over there.
I chose fabrics to coordinate with the rest of her wardrobe so she’d have lots of mix-n-match possibilities….which, face it, is just what every 12-inch doll needs.
Most of the clothes fit her other stuffed friends, too.
A lot of these doll clothes were made over a year ago, but for the longest time Lila preferred her babies to be naked. She’s into them now though, and I’m pretty excited that I no longer have to play dress up alone. While we were trying out Baby Girl’s new duds, Lila fashioned an Ikea tray into a little over-the-cradle diaper changing station, kind of like the one that used to sit on her crib. Then she added the polka-dot tin to collect the dirty diapers.
Almost three is such a fun age…
Oh my goodness, I can’t get over all the cuteness!! I especially love the “tiny” tags š
I positively squealed when I saw these pictures! Hubby is laughing at me. But having a daughter just seems to get more and more fun with each passing month. I can hardly wait until my baby is ready for doll clothes. At 15 months, she’s already attached to multiple babies, so maybe I won’t have to wait much longer. š
oooh!!! SO very adorable š and the tags? i nearly fainted. love.
Those are adorable! I loved them!! My daughter is almost 27 months and I’m *just* starting to see her do things more with her dolly. It’s so fun at this age. š
SO sweet. That little dolly has a better looking wardrobe than me!
ha, me too – by far!
You are such a good mama, Gail. The pants are super adorable, as is the rest of Baby Girl’s wardrobe!
Lila is such a lucky girl! Baby Girl and friends are lucky, too! š I love all of the outfits!
Officially the best dressed dolly on the web! So cute!
love it! amazing that you got all that done by the end of the business day. was someone around to keep her busy?
ha, i only made the first pair by the end of the business day….i’m telling you, they seriously took 15 minutes!
Love the clothes, love the tags – you are amazing!
Totally awesome.
We have that same IKEA tray but with three boys it has not been used as a changing table :). I love all of these clothes. Maybe one of the boys needs a “baby boy” so I can make tiny pants too?
OMG, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I better start doing some for my girl, with tags included!!!!!! Thank you for the inspiration
so so cute!
She is such a good mommy – and so are you! Have you seen these dolls’ clothes patterns? http://www.citronille.fr/produit.php?id_collection=12
They match the big girl patterns – so cute.
oh i love the citronille patterns. if only i spoke french!
You are an awesome mom! Seriously! Even the idea of making doll clothes kind of makes me want to stick a pin in my eye…but perhaps that’s because I’ve never seen doll clothes quite as cute as these…
What cute clothes. So great that you took the time out of your day to make all the pants. Lila is adorable, playing Mama.
I love the clothes, but especially the tags. How do you make them?
WOw!! I’m going to have to get on it š Our dolly is one sad naked dolly over here… How do you print on your tags?
Thanks guys! The tags are stamped onto twill tape (folded in half since it had to be tiny) using a set of alphabet stamps and a StazOn ink pad.
Those clothes are absolutley perfect. Where is her baby doll from, or what make is it? It has such a sweet face, and there are so many creepy dolls out there.
The doll is a Madame Alexander doll. I think they are called Huggums. I had one as a baby/kid and now my daughter does too. They are sweet and definitely not creepy!
Oh yes, she’s a Madame Alexander “huggable huggums” – silly name but a really sweet little face š
simply delightful! Along with everyone else, simply loving the personalized tags! It’s those little personal details that make sewing for loved ones so special.
So, so cute! This reminds me of all the clothes my mom stitched up for our Cabbage Patch dolls and Barbie’s. She used to let me play with scraps and use them for blankets I even hand-stitched up a few little dresses when I was a kid. Whenever we play with them now, it totally brings me back. How special!
these are the sweetest! you are such a nice mama to whip all those up… now she can play ‘fashion show’ with all her dolls š
My girls had this same doll and we call her Baby Girl too! My.girls are teenagers now . Sweet memories of sweet times. (we also have the same dolly bed) you’ll have to make Baby Girl a quilt!
P.S. Baby Girl with some homage clothes or doll quilt makes a perfect first birthday gift.
You are such a good mama š I love all of the outfits especially the pants!
I featured this at Sinful Sewing & Sweets as part of my 30 Sew-Made Holiday Ideas. Check it out at http://sinfulsweetsandsewing.blogspot.com/2012/11/day-2-doll-accesorries.html
Thanks for the cute idea and I love all the variations,
Kandice
This post is awesome! I’m a novice seamstress, but can’t wait to try to make some clothes for MY 32 year old Huggums doll, Jane, who was recently given back to me from my mom for my 9 month old daughter to enjoy. Jane is in desperate need of some stylish clothes since she came home to me wearing a way too big blue sleeper from the 80s! Thanks again. I’m so excited!
Where are the patterns for the other clothes (like the cute shorts) from?
hi janet! the clothes are mostly from mcalls 5347, and the bloomers came from mcalls 6233.
thank you!
Hello, super cute clothes. I’m making Waldorf dolls for my nieces and am trying to find some cute clothes to make. Is there a pattern for these dresses and pants? Or can I purchase them from you?
Thanks!
Thanks Molly! The patterns are McCalls 4338 and 5347 – there are links for purchasing in the post!
I know I am late in commenting, but I just found your post when searching for Madame Alexander doll clothes patterns, and had to share that I just got a Huggable Huggums too for my first daughter (after 3 boys!). Some relatives had gotten her dolls for Christmas, but I really really wanted her to have a Huggums as I had one as a girl too and just love the sweet vintage faces that they have. Thanks for the links to the McCalls patterns. I may look them up at Joann’s the next time they have a sale.
