Lila’s babies are in desperate need of diapers. I’m not sure what she’s feeding them, but they poop a lot. I mean, you wouldn’t believe the frequency with which these dolls poop. She’s constantly changing them using the one diaper I made last year from the Skip to My Lou tutorial, which turned out too big for her 12-inch dolls. I’ve been meaning to re-size the pattern and make a few more, but in the meantime, three baby dolls with very active bowels have been sharing one ill-fitting diaper. It just isn’t right.
So she’s getting a stack for Christmas.
The fabric options were overwhelming me, so I went with all polka dots, and flannel inside.
I ended up merging a doll “panties” pattern from McCalls 4338 with the Skip to my Lou pattern – I just kept tweaking it until it fit right. And I put a long strip of velcro across the front to make it more adjustable (and because that’s what ours looked like). The wipes were based on ours, too – just flannel squares with zig-zagged edges.
Baby girl modeled for me.
that is SO fantastic!! i think my girls would love this.
Oh so very cute! Girls are just so much fun!!!!
so cute! I made some pretend diapers like that a long time ago, but of course they never fit the dolls we had very well. and those wipes!! ahhh, so cute. 🙂
This is so ridiculously cute! I have two boys, they could play with this right? I am always trying to determine if something is just a little over-the-edge girly for two boys……
no way, not too girly! they may be changing real diapers someday down the road – a little practice couldn’t hurt!
these are great! i just made some to go with my daughter’s Christmas doll. Now I’m concerned I should have sized them. Oh well!
You’re killing me! Those are the cutest little things I’ve ever seen!
What a fun post! You really made me laugh today. And it is excellent present, Lila is going to love it!
Yeah, what a sweet gift! Back before I could sew I bought doll diapers like this off of Etsy for Aria’s birthday. Ah, now to think of all the prints I could make. You’re right – it’s overwhelming!
Your post made me laugh! I remember when my middle daughter was about three, she wanted to change her doll’s diaper and clothing many times a day. My youngest daughter who is 1 1/2 is just now becoming very interested in her baby dolls. I would love to make her some of these diapers. They are so cute!
baby girl looks like she is having a great time pooing in her diaper.
First of all, I love love love your photography. Must get some tips. Also, my two girls have that baby doll and have loved her to pieces. She is just the best baby doll ever. I appreciate the stack of diapers, and even more so because they are polka dotty. I have a similar problem with an abundance of poopy dolly diapers around here too. It needs to stop 🙂 So, I might have to copy your idea. Thanks for sharing!
These are hysterically cute! And I just love the colorful fun polka dots with matching flannel wipes. Adorable.
polka dotty dolly diapers polka dotty dolly diapers polka dotty dolly diapers. 😀 great post, super cute dipes and wipes, lila will be over the moon for these!
Oh she is going to love those diapers! Too too cute.
What baby doll is it?
She’s a Madame Alexander “Huggable Huggums” doll.
These are absolutely brilliant!! I love your choice of fabrics and the design is so clever — I bet your daughter will be thrilled to get so many of them!
I loved these so much I made some for my daughter and niece (not such adorable spotty fabrics though!). I also made a coordinating changing mat – there’s a tutorial on my blog if anyone’s interested.
Why not trace a real baby’s diaper and make some from cotton or flannel to dress up the same old diapers? I think I will make some for my premature great grandaughter for Christmas
oh, i love these so much!!! would you be willing to share your pattern???
I’m going to attempt to make some for Indigos doll for Christmas. Thanks for the inspiration. Hope you and baby are well!
First of all, you crack me up. Second of all, I am excited to make some for my 2-year old for Christmas for her baby. I’m hoping it will help her stay busy with her baby doll when I have baby #2 next month. Glad to have found you on pinterest! Thanks!
I really like how you used fabric instead of felt. I made some using a pattern that I found on another sight using felt which was quick and easy but are starting to stretch out and warping out if shape. Thanks for providing directions on how to make them with flannel. That is what I remember using as a child. I’m off to the store to buy flannel and make some more.
I know this is an old post, but I hope you see my comment nonetheless. Just have to know what is the name of the multi polka dot fabric? Love these dolly diapers. Getting ready to make some for my granddaughter, (20 months), who just discovered babies.
sure, no problem – it’s called sweet nothings multi dots by riley blake!
To cute My Granddaughters will love these
This is my daughter’s favorite doll, also! She cannot eat, sleep, play, shop, or anything without Baby Dear. So awesome to find a pattern I KNOW will work! I can’t wait to make these for her! She’s been using leftover newborn disposables from my son. 😀 I can’t wait to show her these pictures, too. Her Baby Dear is famous! 🙂
Is your tweaked pattern posted anywhere?
no, sorry!
I have made a lot of doggie diapers and I always use a zig zag stitch when attaching Velcro and have never broken a needle yet. I usually use a #9 needle. When sewing catch Velcro then stitch slightly off the edge of Velcro.
Thanks for the free pattern. Happy stitching!
I really like your doll diaper design. It looks as though it could fit different size dolls.
Thanks for the inspiration 🙂 I made my first diaper last night (up until 1am) and today I am using my daughter’s baby alive bib to make a matching bib for the diaper and she is SO excited. My machine isn’t working right now so I hand stitched the diaper and plan to hand stitch the bib. She is over the moon so thank you so much for helping me scratch my craft project itch last night 😉
Super cute!!
