Blues and greens are definitely my favorites, but I do love this orangey color combination, too:
our fiestaware * a little knit dress she wore twice* our wedding dahlias
So last night I made Lila a simple little dress from orange shot cottons. My local fabric store carries the entire color range of Kaffe Fasset’s shot cotton, which is both amazing and completely overwhelming…but mostly just amazing. I can’t get enough of the stuff – I have stacks and stacks of prints but all I want to sew with these days is shot cotton!
The pattern is Leila & Ben’s Sweet Little Dress, which I’ve made countless times before, though never in solids. There are lots of simple peasant dress patterns out there, but I find this one to be pretty much perfect.
I added the gathered pockets from the Oliver + S Jump Rope Dress (view B).
Pattern: Leila & Ben’s Sweet Little Dress, size 3T
Fabric: tangerine and watermelon shot cotton (and an unknown, accidental third color for the pocket binding)
That’s it for today. Back to blue tomorrow!

this is perfect! All your shot cotton sewing has got me drooling. I’ve got to find some close to me! The pockets are a great addition too.
GET YOUR SHOP TO CARRY IT!!!!
It’s just perfect! I love the colors!
I love it! Great colour choices and the pockets… perfect!
freaking amazing! everything is better with a patch pocket. and i adore my shots too:) gotta ask, what are l’s shoes?
The first time I heard of shot cotton was when you posted Lila’s Ice Cream Dress (which is like my highest repinned pin on my Pinterest board!). Ever since then, I’ve asked at every local fabric store I’ve been in – nothing. I so envy you your local source! But lucky us – we get to benefit too from you sharing your amazing creations! And once again – I’m inspired to give this fabric a shot!:)
Oh I just love the bright colors! Shot cottons are my new favorite fabric too, and I recently went overboard buying them in every color, including orange. I like the way this dress turned out with the two-tones. Must try.
love the color combination. solids are like a breath of fresh air for my eyes. sweet dress for a sweet girl:)
love it so much, and now i want some sherbet! yum. i really love those colors together, and i’m sure lila will get tons of wear out of this one! isn’t shot cotton the best?
What a beautiful colour combination: tangerine and watermelon – so sweet for a little girl. The pockets are wonderful for this comfortable dress – especially for little girls who always love pockets to carry their treasures in.

i love this pattern, i love fiestaware (we use it too) and the dress is darling! so are her shoes!
This is super adorable. You have just given me another reason to mosey over to Cool Cottons today. My 2 year old needs this dress. Stat.
Oh my gosh, I LOVE this dress! The pockets are such the perfect touch! DARLING DARLING DARLING!! Love it.
Such a cute dress! And I feel a little sheepish, (I swear I sew!) but I’ve never heard of shot cotton. What is it?
sorry about that, i should have linked: it’s a line of woven solids (two colors are woven together, which gives the fabric a nice textured look, though it’s hard to see it in photos) by kaffe fassett.
the pockets are so perfect !!!
just came here from skirt as tops blog ~ looks like we’re both taking part in her Vintage May ~ how fun !
